HVAC Maintenance Plans in Salt Lake County

HVAC maintenance plans are sold a lot of different ways in this industry. Some contractors push plans aggressively with promises of dramatic savings that mostly don’t materialize. Others offer plans so stripped-down they’re just a marketing tool to capture customer contact information. The honest version sits in the middle: a maintenance plan should bundle the maintenance work most customers should be doing anyway, add operational benefits (priority scheduling, waived diagnostic fees, parts discounts) that have real value, and produce modest savings for active customers while staying transparent about what’s included and what isn’t.

Our maintenance plans are designed for customers who actually use them. The math is straightforward — if you would otherwise schedule annual tune-ups separately, occasionally call for repairs, and want the convenience of one company knowing your equipment and showing up consistently, the maintenance plan delivers measurable savings and meaningful convenience. If you only call when something’s broken and skip annual maintenance, the maintenance plan probably isn’t the right fit. We don’t push plans on customers for whom they don’t make sense.

Below are the maintenance plans we offer, what each includes, the math on how they compare to pay-as-you-go service, and how to decide whether a plan is right for your specific situation.

What Aegis Maintenance Plans Include

All Aegis maintenance plans include the following core benefits:

Scheduled Tune-Ups

  • Twice-yearly comprehensive tune-ups — spring AC tune-up (April–May) and fall furnace tune-up (September–October), scheduled in advance with reminder calls a week before each visit
  • Full diagnostic measurements on every visit — combustion analysis on heating equipment, refrigerant charge verification on cooling equipment, electrical readings, static pressure measurement, safety control verification
  • Standard preventive service — coil cleaning, capacitor testing, contactor inspection, flame sensor cleaning (heating), condensate drain flush, filter inspection
  • Written tune-up reports emailed after each visit, including combustion analyzer printouts on gas equipment
  • Maintenance records kept on file at our office — useful for future warranty claims

Filter Replacement

  • Standard pleated filter replacement included at each scheduled visit (filter cost included in plan)
  • Higher-MERV media filter replacement on plans for customers with media filter cabinets — filter cost included in plan up to standard sizes
  • Mid-season filter replacement for inversion season included on premium plans

Priority Emergency Scheduling

  • Front-of-line emergency response ahead of non-plan customers during peak demand periods
  • Same-day response for emergency calls during business hours (subject to active call volume)
  • Reduced wait time during peak heating and cooling seasons when emergency demand is high

Waived Diagnostic Fees

  • No diagnostic fee on emergency repair calls — saves $99–$199 per emergency visit compared to non-plan pricing
  • No diagnostic fee on routine service calls — saves $99–$179 per call
  • This benefit alone often pays back the plan cost on customers who experience a single emergency or service call during the year

Parts and Repair Discounts

  • 10–15% discount on all parts and repair labor for repair work performed during the plan period
  • Cumulative savings — multiple repairs during the year compound the discount benefit
  • Doesn’t apply to: full equipment replacement projects, IAQ equipment installation (humidifiers, dehumidifiers, UV systems, media filter cabinets), ductwork modifications

Equipment Longevity Documentation

  • Maintenance records kept in our customer file system, useful for warranty claims years into the future
  • Equipment tracking across multiple service visits, allowing us to identify trends and catch developing issues
  • Service history available on request for real estate transactions or insurance claims

Maintenance Plan Tiers

We offer three maintenance plan tiers based on coverage scope and benefits. Pricing varies slightly based on equipment complexity, with multi-system properties priced higher than single-system properties.

Essential Plan ($189–$229/year)

For customers with single residential systems (one furnace or one heat pump or AC/furnace combination) wanting basic maintenance and benefits:

  • Twice-yearly tune-ups (spring AC + fall furnace, or twice-yearly for heat pump)
  • Standard pleated filter replacement at scheduled visits
  • Priority emergency scheduling
  • Waived diagnostic fees
  • 10% parts and repair discount
  • Written tune-up reports
  • Maintenance records on file

Comfort Plan ($249–$299/year)

For customers wanting more comprehensive maintenance with additional service touchpoints:

  • Everything in Essential Plan, plus:
  • Mid-season filter replacement during inversion season (winter quarter visit)
  • Annual humidifier service if equipped (pad replacement, water panel cleaning)
  • Annual UV lamp inspection and replacement if equipped (lamp cost included)
  • Annual condensate pan deep cleaning
  • 12% parts and repair discount
  • Extended response time guarantees during peak season

Comprehensive Plan ($299–$329/year)

For customers wanting maximum maintenance coverage and the deepest discounts:

  • Everything in Comfort Plan, plus:
  • Quarterly check-ins (4 visits/year) for high-demand systems or households with significant IAQ concerns
  • Annual media filter replacement (up to 4–5″ media filter sizes)
  • Annual dehumidifier service if equipped
  • Annual CO detector inspection and battery replacement
  • 15% parts and repair discount
  • Same-day emergency response priority
  • Annual IAQ assessment with written report

Multi-System Pricing

For homes with multiple HVAC systems (zoned systems with multiple air handlers, dual-fuel heat pump systems, or properties with separate guest suite or basement HVAC), plans are priced per system with multi-system discounts:

  • First system: Plan base price (above)
  • Each additional system: 60% of base price added to plan total
  • Example: Comfort Plan for two-system property: $249 (first system) + $149 (second system) = $398/year

The Math: Plan vs. Pay-As-You-Go

Let’s run actual numbers comparing Comfort Plan to equivalent pay-as-you-go service:

Without Maintenance Plan

  • Spring AC tune-up (single visit): $129
  • Fall furnace tune-up (single visit): $129
  • Filter replacements (4 standard pleated per year, retail): $40
  • Humidifier pad replacement (annual): $35
  • Predictable annual cost (no emergencies): $333

With Comfort Plan ($274/year — midpoint)

  • Both tune-ups included
  • Standard filter replacement included
  • Humidifier pad replacement included
  • Mid-season inversion filter replacement included
  • Annual condensate pan cleaning included
  • Priority scheduling and waived diagnostic fees on any emergencies
  • 12% discount on any repair work
  • Annual cost: $274 — direct savings of $59 even before considering any emergency or repair work

Adding One Emergency Call During the Year

If you experience a typical emergency call during the year (failed capacitor in summer, blown flame sensor in winter):

  • Without plan: $129 diagnostic fee + $299 repair = $428 total + $333 base annual = $761 total annual HVAC spend
  • With plan: Diagnostic fee waived + repair at 12% discount = $263 emergency cost + $274 plan = $537 total annual HVAC spend
  • Plan savings on year with one emergency: $224

Customers Most Likely to Save With Plans

  • Customers who would maintain annual tune-ups anyway (immediate breakeven on bundling alone)
  • Customers who occasionally experience emergencies or service calls (benefit from waived diagnostic fees and parts discounts)
  • Customers with multiple systems (multi-system discount compounds savings)
  • Customers with humidifiers, UV systems, or other equipment requiring annual service (included service replaces separate service calls)
  • Customers who value priority scheduling during peak demand periods

Customers Less Likely to Save With Plans

  • Customers who skip annual maintenance and only call when something is completely broken
  • Customers with brand-new equipment under comprehensive manufacturer warranty (less likely to need repair work during plan period)
  • Customers planning to move in the near future who won’t be in the home long enough to benefit from the bundled service
  • Customers comfortable with potentially longer emergency response times during peak seasons

We don’t push plans on customers in the second category. Some HVAC contractors enroll every customer in a plan whether or not it serves them; we’d rather have customers who genuinely benefit from the plan than customers paying for benefits they don’t use.

What Maintenance Plans DON’T Include

Plans cover preventive service and standard maintenance benefits. Several categories require separate quotes:

  • Major component replacement (compressors, heat exchangers, control boards, gas valves, ECM motors) — discounted at plan rate but not included in plan price
  • Full equipment replacement (failed furnace, AC, heat pump, or boiler) — plan customers receive priority quoting and consideration but replacement projects are separate from plan
  • Indoor air quality upgrades (new humidifier installation, media filter cabinet installation, UV system installation, dehumidifier installation) — separate quotes; plan customers receive parts-only discounts on these upgrades
  • Ductwork modifications (sealing, balancing, additions, repairs)
  • Refrigerant beyond minor top-offs — significant recharges after leak repair priced at plan rate but not included in plan
  • Gas line work — performed by Travis Hollings under his Utah journeyman plumber endorsement
  • Duct cleaning — separate service when needed
  • Premium IAQ equipment service beyond what’s included (whole-home dehumidifier service, advanced HEPA bypass system service)

This is honest scope. Some contractors include token amounts of “free” repair work in maintenance plans that customers rarely use; we’d rather price the plan straightforwardly and discount the actual repair work when needed.

Plan Enrollment and Renewal

Initial Enrollment

New plan enrollment can happen anytime during the year. Plans begin on enrollment date and run for 12 months. New enrollments typically begin with the next seasonal tune-up appropriate for the current time of year:

  • Enrollment in March–May: Plan starts with spring AC tune-up, fall furnace tune-up follows
  • Enrollment in June–August: Plan starts immediately with off-season inspection visit, fall furnace tune-up at appropriate time, spring AC tune-up next spring
  • Enrollment in September–October: Plan starts with fall furnace tune-up, spring AC tune-up follows
  • Enrollment in November–February: Plan starts immediately with off-season inspection visit, spring AC tune-up at appropriate time

Annual Renewal

Plans renew automatically each year unless cancelled. Renewal pricing reflects current rates (typically modest annual increases tracking inflation). Customers receive 30-day notice before automatic renewal and can adjust plan tier, switch plans, or cancel at that time.

Plan Modifications

Customers can upgrade or downgrade plans at any time during the plan period. Pro-rated adjustments apply.

Cancellation

Plans can be cancelled at any time. If the plan has already been used (tune-ups performed, services used), pro-rated cost applies for services rendered. Unused portion is refunded.

How Plans Differ from Extended Manufacturer Warranties

Customers sometimes confuse maintenance plans with extended manufacturer warranties — these are different products serving different purposes:

Maintenance Plans (Aegis)

  • Cover preventive maintenance, service, and operational benefits
  • Sold by Aegis as a service plan
  • Renewable annually
  • Discount on repair parts and labor
  • Don’t cover the cost of major component replacement

Extended Manufacturer Warranties

  • Cover the cost of replacing failed components
  • Sold by equipment manufacturers (Trane, Carrier, Lennox, etc.) typically at the time of equipment installation
  • Term of 5–12 years depending on warranty purchased
  • One-time purchase for the warranty term
  • Cover specific failures per warranty terms; don’t cover preventive maintenance

The two products complement each other rather than replacing each other. Customers who purchase extended manufacturer warranties at the time of equipment installation often also benefit from maintenance plans for preventive service. Maintenance plan customers maintain better service records, which can support warranty claims if extended warranties are needed.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much do HVAC maintenance plans cost?
Essential Plan $189–$229/year; Comfort Plan $249–$299/year; Comprehensive Plan $299–$329/year. Multi-system properties priced with 60% surcharge per additional system. Final pricing depends on equipment complexity and selected tier.
Will the maintenance plan save me money?
Almost always yes if you would maintain annual tune-ups otherwise and occasionally call for repairs. The plan bundles tune-ups and filter replacement at slight discount to pay-as-you-go pricing, then adds priority scheduling, waived diagnostic fees, and parts discounts that compound savings on any emergency or repair calls. Customers who skip maintenance and rarely have emergencies sometimes pay slightly more with a plan than without.
What’s the difference between plan tiers?
Essential covers core maintenance (twice-yearly tune-ups, filters, basic discounts). Comfort adds humidifier service, UV lamp service, mid-season filter, and higher discount. Comprehensive adds quarterly visits, dehumidifier service, CO detector inspection, IAQ assessment, and highest discount. Most customers find Essential or Comfort plans match their needs; Comprehensive is for customers with significant IAQ equipment or maximum service preferences.
Are maintenance plans transferable if I sell my home?
Yes. Plans transfer to the new owner with the property. New owners can continue, upgrade, or cancel the plan based on their preference. Some sellers find that an active maintenance plan with documented service records adds value during home sale negotiations.
Can I switch plan tiers during the year?
Yes. Plan upgrades take effect immediately with pro-rated cost adjustment. Plan downgrades take effect at the next anniversary date or with refund of difference between paid and adjusted plan cost.
What happens if I don’t use all the services in my plan?
The plan is priced based on average customer usage, not minimum service. Customers who use less than average effectively subsidize customers who use more — same as any bundled service plan. We don’t refund unused services. Plan customers who don’t actively use their plan benefits sometimes consider downgrading to a lower tier or moving to pay-as-you-go.
Do you offer commercial maintenance plans?
Yes — see our commercial service contracts page for commercial maintenance plans that include quarterly or biannual service schedules, documented service records, and emergency response priority for commercial customers.
