Community Involvement
Aegis Heating and Air was started in West Valley City and stays in West Valley City. Patrick grew up in Murray. Most of our technicians live in the communities we work in — Mike in West Jordan, Travis in Kearns, Cole in Taylorsville, Dani and Marisol in Magna. The valley isn’t an abstract service area on a map; it’s where we shop, where our kids go to school, where we run into customers at the grocery store on a Saturday.
This page documents the ways we give back to Salt Lake County. We don’t post about most of it on social media — that’s not why we do it — but we keep this page updated so prospective customers can see what we actually support, in concrete terms.
Free Heat Program — Winter Emergency Assistance
Every winter, Aegis Heating and Air donates one full furnace installation plus up to four emergency repair visits to families in Salt Lake County who can’t afford heat through the worst stretches of the season. The program targets:
- Elderly homeowners on fixed incomes
- Single-parent households facing a furnace failure they can’t cover
- Families with infants or medically vulnerable members during sub-freezing conditions
Nominations are accepted from:
- Local social workers and case managers
- Pastors and community leaders
- Neighbors who know a household in crisis
If you know a family in Salt Lake County who needs heating help they can’t pay for, contact us at info@aegisheatingandair.xyz with the subject line “Free Heat Nomination.” We evaluate each case privately and respond directly to the nominator. Privacy matters to families in this situation; we don’t publicize names or addresses of recipients.
Local School and Youth Sponsorships
- West Valley West Little League — Team sponsor since 2023. Patrick’s son plays in the league, which is how we got involved.
- Granger High School Athletics — Annual program sponsor supporting team uniforms and equipment.
- Salt Lake Community College HVAC Program Scholarship — Annual $1,000 scholarship awarded each spring to a graduating SLCC HVAC student pursuing Utah journeyman or contractor licensure.
If you represent a youth sports team, school program, or local nonprofit looking for sponsorship, reach out — we evaluate sponsorship requests quarterly. We prioritize organizations based in our direct service area (West Valley City, Kearns, Magna, Taylorsville, West Jordan, and Salt Lake City) where our support stays close to home.
Trade Education Support
HVAC is a trade with chronic workforce shortages. The valley needs more qualified technicians, and the only way to get them is to invest in the people coming up through the trade schools. Aegis supports trade education in two ways:
Salt Lake Community College Partnership
We partner with the HVAC program at Salt Lake Community College, including:
- Accepting current students for paid summer apprenticeships
- Donating retired equipment for classroom training (rather than scrapping it, which most contractors do)
- Patrick periodically guest-lectures on combustion analysis and Manual J load calculation in the senior practicum
- Annual scholarship of $1,000 for a graduating student pursuing licensure
Apprenticeship Program
We maintain at least one apprentice technician slot on our crew at any given time. Apprentices ride along with senior technicians for the first 6–12 months, complete required EPA 608 certification, and progress toward NATE certification on a structured timeline. Multiple current Aegis technicians started as apprentices.
If you’re a current trade student or recent graduate interested in an apprenticeship opportunity with Aegis, reach out at info@aegisheatingandair.xyz with the subject line “Apprenticeship Inquiry.”
Veteran and First Responder Discounts
Aegis offers a year-round discount on service and installation for:
- Active-duty military
- Veterans (any branch)
- Active first responders (fire, police, EMS)
- Retired first responders
Discount details: 10% off labor on service calls and 5% off the total project price on installations, up to a maximum of $500 per installation. Verification is simple — military or service ID at the time of service. Mention the discount when you call (385) 250-0687 to schedule and we’ll apply it to your quote.
Annual Charity Partnership
Each year, Aegis selects a local Salt Lake County nonprofit to support with a combination of donated services, financial contribution, and volunteer hours from our team. Past annual partners have included:
- The Road Home — Salt Lake County homeless services
- Utah Food Bank
- Habitat for Humanity of Greater Salt Lake — donated HVAC installs on Habitat homes
- Big Brothers Big Sisters of Utah
This year’s partner: Habitat for Humanity of Greater Salt Lake, with two donated furnace and AC installations scheduled on Habitat builds in West Valley City and South Salt Lake.
Habitat for Humanity HVAC Donations
Aegis donates one to two full HVAC system installs per year on Habitat for Humanity homes in Salt Lake County. We provide:
- Donated equipment (typically Goodman or Rheem mid-tier residential equipment)
- Donated labor for installation
- Full Manual J load calculation and proper sizing for the home
- Manufacturer warranty registration on the new family’s behalf
- First-year free maintenance
If you’re a Habitat affiliate or community partner working with a Salt Lake County build, reach out — we’d like to be part of it.
Local Business Network
Aegis is an active member of:
- West Valley City Chamber of Commerce
- Air Conditioning Contractors of America (ACCA) — Utah chapter
- Better Business Bureau of Utah (accredited business)
- Salt Lake Chamber
We refer customers to other locally-owned, trusted contractors in adjacent trades (electricians, plumbers, roofers, general contractors) and they refer customers to us. That’s how a small-business ecosystem stays healthy — peer-to-peer trust, not lead-generation aggregators that take a cut of every job.
Why We Don’t Make a Bigger Deal of This
Most contractor websites have a “community” section that reads like a press release. We’ve kept this page short on purpose. We’re not running a marketing campaign — we’re just trying to be useful where we live. If you’d like to nominate a family for the Free Heat program, partner with us on a Habitat install, or talk to Patrick about a sponsorship request for a youth team, the best path is just to call.
Frequently Asked Questions
- How do I nominate someone for the Free Heat program?
- Email info@aegisheatingandair.xyz with the subject line “Free Heat Nomination” and a brief description of the household’s situation. We evaluate each case privately, prioritizing households facing immediate winter risk — sub-freezing temperatures, vulnerable members (elderly, infant, medically fragile), and demonstrated inability to pay for the repair or replacement. Recipient identities are kept private; we don’t publicize names or addresses.
- Does Aegis sponsor youth sports teams or school programs?
- Yes, on a quarterly review basis. Priority goes to organizations based in our direct service area (West Valley City, Kearns, Magna, Taylorsville, West Jordan, Salt Lake City). To submit a sponsorship request, email us with the organization name, the program details, the sponsorship levels available, and what the sponsorship funds will be used for.
- Do you offer discounts for veterans and first responders?
- Yes. We offer a year-round discount on service and installation for active-duty military, veterans, active and retired first responders. Verification is military or service ID at the time of service. Mention the discount when you call (385) 250-0687 to schedule and we’ll apply it to your quote.
- How can my organization apply for a charitable HVAC donation?
- Habitat for Humanity affiliates, low-income housing organizations, and similar Salt Lake County nonprofits can reach out to discuss donated HVAC installations. We typically commit to one to two donated installs per year and select recipients in the fall for the following year’s projects. Contact info@aegisheatingandair.xyz with details about your organization and the project.
- Does Aegis hire apprentices or trade school students?
- Yes. We maintain at least one apprentice slot on our crew at any given time and partner with local trade education programs for paid summer apprenticeships. If you’re a current trade student or recent graduate, email info@aegisheatingandair.xyz with the subject line “Apprenticeship Inquiry” — we’ll set up a conversation with Patrick.
